Alexi put on her first pair of tap shoes at the age of two when she began taking tap lessons at Steps a Dance Studio, and hasn’t taken them off much since. Her love of dance grew as she continued to train in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, musical theater, and hip hop at Steps, as well as at Chamberlain School of Ballet, The Ballet Conservatory, and Dance Industry.

Growing up, Alexi pursued dance in a variety of ways. She competed solos, duets, and group routines with Steps for 16 years. She performed various roles with the Moscow Russian Ballet from 2008-2010. In high school, Alexi earned a position on Dallas’ Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble, where her passion for tap dance was cultivated under the instruction of Katelyn Harris and Keira Leverton. As a member of DYTE, Alexi had the opportunity to perform at various events including National Tap Dance Day, Plano Dance Festival, Dance for the Planet, and Good Morning Texas, among many others. With DYTE she traveled to participate in tap festivals such as Soul to Sole, Third Coast Rhythm Project, and Chicago Human Rhythm Project. She has trained with some of the greatest tap instructors and performers in the world, including Dianne Walker, Jay Fagan, Barbara Phillips, Acia Gray, Derick Grant, Jason Janas, Gene Medler, Josh Hilberman, Michelle Dorrance, Nicole Hockenberry, Jason Samuels Smith, Nicholas Young, Max Pollak, and Sarah Savelli, to name a few. Her junior year of high school she became a member of the Dallas Christian Chargerettes drill team, where she would later go on to serve as 1st Lieutenant her senior year. As a Chargerette, she was recognized as an All-American Dancer both years by the American Dance and Drill Team organization, which afforded her the opportunity to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2011 and 2012.

Alexi began teaching dance at the end of her senior year of high school. She has taught a variety of dancers from the youngest dancers in beginner combo classes, up to adults taking class for the first time, to everything in between, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, musical theater, and hip hop. At Baylor University, Alexi obtained a Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders in order to pursue a career as a Speech Language Pathologist. She also obtained a Dance minor that focused on the pedagogy of dance and choreography. During this time, Alexi was also a member of the Rhythmic Souls Tap Company. Here she had the opportunity to bring classic tap dances back to the stage by performing iconic pieces such as Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s famous “Stair Dance” and “Moses Supposes” performed by Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor in Singin’ in the Rain. In college she continued teaching for two years at Joy’s School of Dance in Waco, TX. She also sought out opportunities to dance at Baylor by performing with Baylor’s hip hop group, Poppers, Lockers, and Breakers.

Alexi holds a Master’s of Speech Pathology from the University of Texas at Dallas, and is working as a Speech Language Pathologist in Wylie ISD. She is also an instructor for the Dallas youth tap ensemble, Choreo Records, and a performer with their professional company. Tap Dance is Alexi’s greatest joy and passion. She is overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to share this passion with her students at Red Door. She is eager to learn from the immensely talented staff and grow alongside her students.
